– Humpback whales: from August to the end of October (peaking in September).
– Manta rays and Mobula rays: no real season, but more numerous from August to December.
– Whale sharks: mid-September to mid-December.
– Omura’s whales: August to December.
– Hammerhead sharks: mid-December to early March, except at Radama, where they can be seen all year round, but there have been fewer since El Niño in 2024!
Good to know
– “Cruise” in Radama, Mitsio, Iranja, Nosy Saba and Nosy Lava.
– Seasons: January, February and March: rainy season, so generally good weather during the day and often rain at night, but beware, every year there are two or three cyclones over Nosy Be, so bad or even very bad weather for a few days. In short: few divers, but more risky in terms of weather.
– Temperature
– May to end of October: 26°C 5 mm wetsuit + hood for those who feel the cold.
– November to end of April: 28-29°C 3 mm wetsuit or shorty.
– Health: no compulsory vaccinations for Nosy Be, advice for the ‘low’ risk of malaria: mosquito repellent and mosquito net.
– Credit cards are often refused in shops, so bring euros in large denominations (no €5, €10 or €20 notes). There are also several cash machines in Nosy Be.
– Visa: to be obtained at the airport upon arrival in Madagascar.
– Diving: S80 aluminium tank (11.1l) for a single dive, DIN and stirrup, 15l steel tanks must be booked in advance. Bring a pair of socks in case the fins are a little too big, and bring 40,000 ar if you are diving in Tanikely Park.
– Nitrox: Highly recommended.

Scuba Nosy Be has small boats, so small groups with a family atmosphere on board: maximum 8 divers , with 2 instructors. Maximum 3 level one divers per instructor.
